We may have seen beautiful eye catchy turtle vines hanging in front of many houses. It gives us a desire to grow the same in our home too.But not everyone’s efforts get the same result! This happens because of the mistakes we make in maintaining a turtle vine plant. Here are some mistakes that we make while growing turtle vines and it’s remedies.
Some problems seen in the turtle vine are stagnant growth, leaving becoming yellowish or whiteish, stems getting broken etc.Even though turtle vine seems grassy it is from the succulent plants family.Succulent plants store excess water in their leaves and stem and utilise it when there is a shortage of water. So If we pour excess water on them the stems may get decayed easily.
Yellowish colour of the leaves is caused by the lack of fertilisation. We might think that these plants doesn’t need a fertilisation as it is grassy. But that is a common misconception.Just like other plants turtle vines needs fertilisation and proper maintenance to grow well.Fertilizers with more nitrogen content is best for turtle vines.NPK 18 18 or 19 19 must be used.It should not exceeded to use more than 2 ml dissolved in water.
Another natural fertiliser that we can use is cow dung solution. If fresh cow dung is not available you can use dried cow dung by immersing it in water for 5 days and applying it using a spray bottle. If fresh cow dung is not available you can use dried cow dung by immersing it in water for 5 days and applying it using a spray bottle.
Though it is a succulent plant and can survive few days without water, we should always remember it watering. The plant can be let for 2 to 3 days without watering but should water on the 4th day.Turtle vines have a different nature that some times it get spoil through over caring and not caring at all.So keep a balance and create a proper maintenance habit.
