An another important factor is the penetration of water. Recently we had heavy floods that destroyed our lives and livelihood. One of the main reason for flooding is that the water received by the land becomes unable to penetrate into the earth. Stones and grasses helps the rain water to penetrate into soil naturally whereas interlocked areas block water to ooze into the land.
It also reduces heat that awakes from the land. The heat produced by the sun have increased tremendously now. Adding up of interlocked yard increases the heat as double. When we use natural stones instead for landscaping it reduces the heat, increases humidity and coolness.
