The world we live is filled with a lot of beautiful places. Among them is a whole beautiful continent Antartica. It is the land massively ice – covered. It is the only continent without permanent human habitation. However there are dozens of research stations which are under guidance of around 30 individual countries.

This southernmost continent is not just iced It is also the world’s highest, driest, windiest and coldest continent. It is is governed internationally through the Antarctic Treaty system and not just by any countries. If all of the ice in Antarctica melts it will increase the sea level about 70 meters causing the ocean to cover coastal lines and resulting in the shrinking of land area significantly.

With the help of technology recently many facts about Antarctica has been discovered. Researchers and tourists can only visit Antarctica. No kinds of factories or mining is allowed there. No types of military activities are allowed to do. The motive of ATS is protect it’s pure nature and to safeguard Antarctica’s peaceful state and not allowing to destroy it.

The depth of ice blocks of Antarctica is around 2000km. There are water resources under the land that under the under the snow. When all the water in the world gets finished Antarctica will be the only place that have the presence of water. The melting of ice mostly occurs in the eastern part of the continent.

There is only two seasons there, summer and winter. Each season is six months long. In summer there is no night because the sunset won’t occur during summer season. During winter there won’t be daytime and it will be night throughout the season. Even during summer season the average temperature is below -30 degree Celsius.

Even though we can see snow all around Antarctica, it is considered as a desert. A place that receives no rain is considered a desert. Antarctica gets only an average of 180 mm of rain. It is also the most drought land in the world. Dry valleys in Antarctica is the most driest place in the world.For the last 20 lakhs years no snow or rain has fallen in the Dry Valleys making it the most drought place on earth.

99% of the continent is filled with ice and only 1% land can be seen and is filled with sand and stones. There are no living beings there including bacterias. A dead body of an animal died about 1000 years ago is still seen there without decaying. These reach there unexpectedly by losing their way searching for food.

Even desserts have some kind of flora and fauna. But places like Dry Valley of Antarctica doesn’t have even the glimpse of a living thing.Antarctica consists of lots of hurricanes. Around 138 hurricanes are found until now. Most biggest among them is Mount Sidley and Mount Erebus. Even if any one of these explode it will melt around 20% of the total ice of the continent raising the sea level.
