Disposing kitchen waste is an headache for many, especially those living in cities and flats.During old days everyone had spacious backyards and waste management was never a problem.But as cities developed and we started to live in flats and rigid apartments,it became a big problem to manage daily wastes.Here is a solution for it made out of old items in our house.
Method
Take an old paint tin with a lid.A benefit of using paint tin is that it’s lid have a small opening with a cap so that you can deposit small wastes through it and close it well.Make holes at the bottom of the tin to allow the water from the waste to penetrate into the soil.It should not be left inside the tin itself.You can use a drill or simply heat the tip of a knife use it to dig holes at the bottom.
As we start disposing wastes into the tin bacterias will form inside it which enables the process of decomposition.Dissolving jaggery in water and pouring it also speeds the processing.
At first put some papers and green leaves in the bottom before disposing kitchen wastes.Leave kitchen wastes like fruits peels, vegetables waste,food leftovers above it.Try to avoid wastes of fish and meat to avoid bad odours.Then add soil above it and close the lid.
When the tin gets completely filled, take an another tin and repeat the process.Before the second tin gets filled, wastes in the first tin had become compost.This compost can be used for plants after drying it in sun.
